Now Summer has drawn to a close (although I’m pretending it hasn’t because I’m not quite ready to accept it yet), I’m reflecting back on all that I’ve learned from our garden renovation that took place over the Summer months and sharing my key garden/outdoor pieces – pretty and practical! We spent a large part of our Summer renovating our garden so I feel pretty well equipped for this after looking at so many different garden designs/ideas/products, so what better time to share my thoughts!

Outdoor brass lighting

Lighting is something I never really envisioned using much in our garden, but boy was I wrong. It’s made a huge difference, especially late in the evenings, it gives our outdoor space such a lovely, romantic atmosphere. Plus there are so many different lighting options to choose from, festoon lighting, solar lighting, fancy wall lights, down lights, and the list goes on… or if you can’t decide like us, why not use a mixture?

Outdoor sofa

Furniture is such a key part of any sociable garden space. Whilst I love having our garden for us to enjoy quietly to ourselves, it’s even better to have a finished space to be able to entertain our friends and family on a warm summer evening. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with an outdoor corner sofa – nothing quite as relaxing!

Outdoor dining bench

But dining is equally as important especially for entertaining so be sure to invest in a dining set that will last you for years (and many parties) to come! I personally prefer a table and bench combo but there are plenty of gorgeous table and chair set ups available too!

Charcoal Chiminea

Now whilst Autumn is well underway, that doesn’t mean that your garden has to be off limits until next Spring! After all, toasted marshmallows are most definitely sweeter when enjoyed on a cold Winter evening snuggled up under blankets around a roaring firepit! Or even a chimnea if you’re a bit more boujee. If that doesn’t quite cut it, why not take it to the next level add some outdoor heaters?

Log Store

Lastly – there are plenty of great practical items for your outdoor space. At the top of my ‘to get’ list is a log store – we have a real fire which we light most evenings when Winter hits and it gets a lot colder, our logs are currently stored in our garage but it’s not ideal as a truck load of logs takes up a great deal of space (and we plan to convert the garage at some point too so this isn’t suitable for long term either), so a log store would be a great solution!

Outdoor furniture cover

When you’ve spent all that money on your garden furniture, you want it to last for years to come right? Nobody wants to have to get new garden furniture a year later because British weather has ruined it – so make sure to get furniture covers – it may cost you a little now, but it will cost you less in the long run!

Outdoor Wooden Storage Box

Another great practical item for over the colder, wetter months is outdoor storage boxes. Now that we actually have an outdoor space to enjoy, we have furnished it with items to have out during the Summer months, but things that we don’t want to leave out all year round in case they get damaged. Storage boxes are great for storing furnishings like outdoor cushions, but are also a stylish way of keeping smaller garden tools if you don’t like the look of sheds.

So that’s my Summer round-up, what are your outdoor essentials?
