ICELAND GEYSER HOT SPRINGS

ICELAND PART II.

The second instalment on my favourite places in Iceland.

The Golden Circle Tour is the most popular day tour in Iceland, understandably too since you get to visit some of Iceland’s most stunning locations. The most impressive location of the trip in my opinion however, was without a doubt the Geysers. Though there are a number of geysers in the Haukadalur geothermal area, the Strokkur geyser is the only one that erupts (every 5 minutes or so).  The water is 80-100° and erupts 15-20m high, quite spectacular to witness and certainly not something you see every day. Just another reason to visit Iceland with all their natural wonders.

Gulfoss Waterfall is another stop on the Golden Circle Day Tour. Another chance to get up close and personal with nature. You can walk right onto the rocky edge of the waterfall (but make sure you’re wearing a waterproof coat because even if it isn’t raining when you visit, the spray from the waterfall will be sure to soak you!) I’m sure it has nothing on Niagra falls but it’s still breathtaking, and with it’s surroundings you feel like you’ve just walked into a scene from The Hobbit – or even Game of Thrones if that’s what takes your fancy (yes Game of Thrones is actually filmed in Iceland, and yes there are tours available!)

So in conclusion, The Golden Circle Tour is a basically a day of a lot of water splashing about! Did that sell it to you? No… on a serious note… you get to see a lot of spectacular places in one day which explains the tour’s high demand!
