The Wool Room

The older I get, the harder I find it to sleep, I don’t know wether that applies to everyone, but I feel like I always have 101 things on my mind and I have a terribly annoying habit of thinking about them in great detail when I get into bed and turn the lights off instead of drifting off to sleep. So for me, it’s so important that when I do get to sleep, that I have a good, comfortable night’s sleep.

That’s why for the last couple of nights I’ve been trying out some new bedding from woolroom. Last week woolroom very kindly sent me some wool pillows, a wool duvet and my favourite part – a wool mattress topper. Before I get to each of those, I just want to talk about the material first. I was pretty surprised when woolroom contacted me if I’m honest, mainly because I wasn’t aware that any bedding was made using wool, duck feathers I’m familiar with but I’ve not heard of wool being used. But in fact, it’s a little-known fact that wool is nature’s miracle material. As a natural, breathable fabric, it actually keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Plus, all of woolroom’s products are chemical free, naturally fire retardant and hypoallergenic so they’re safe for the home too! Oh and I thought this was pretty interesting too – scientific testing over a period of six weeks has shown that dust mites cannot survive in wool which is why woolroom’s range has been awarded the Allergy UK Seal of Approval. Which also means wool is for those with asthma and allergies with no need to wash at 60 degrees or freeze your bedding to stay allergy free.

So I don’t know how else to describe the mattress topper to you other than ‘it’s like a squishy cloud that dreams are made of’, in other words, it feels like sleeping on a marshmallow. Honestly, it’s SO comfortable, so thick – if you don’t want to invest in a brand new mattress but want to upgrade the one you already have, this is the product for you I’m telling you. I’ve had my mattress for as long as I can remember and now it feels like a completely new one. Getting into bed has always excited me, but now, even more so. The pillows; these are different to any pillows I’ve had before, and they’re suited to everyone. How? Well they’re come with the zip so you can actually adjust the fullness of them – you can buy extra wool filling if you prefer a really firm pillow to sleep on. So they’re personalised for you. Isn’t that genius? I personally like a a big fluffy pillow but my other half prefers a much firmer pillow, a normal set of pillowcases would not allow us to make them suit us both.To maintain your pillows softness by working through the wool and pulling the fibres apart so the wool is loose and that will make the pillow much softer, and it’s really quick and easy to do – and you can do this as often as you need to. Lastly, the duvet. I’ve been meaning to get a duvet like this forever, because they are just such a great idea, especially in Britain when the weather is so up and down, on Saturday it felt like the middle of July then by Sunday it felt like we were fully submerged into Winter, I was embracing knitwear and seriously debated lighting the fire… but yeah, all season duvets are the way forward. Basically you have two different togg duvets which have poppers to attach them together so that you can either sleep with them combined or use either alone, so you essentially have three different temperature duvets in one. Amazing!

So has using woolroom bedding made me get a better night’s sleep? 100%! Honestly this morning I said to my other half that we might have to take the mattress topper off… he asked why, I said, because I can’t get out of bed in the morning, it’s just too damn comfortable! I’ll update you guys in a few months to let you know how I’m getting on with them!

What kind of bedding is your favourite? Have you tried wool before?

Here’s to another good (squishy) night’s sleep!
