Creating a minimal, ergonomic workspace

Ergonomic Humanscale Minimal Scandinavian Office

This is a paid partnership in collaboration with Humanscale.

At first glance this space might look a little different to my usual feminine style, and there’s a reason for that – I designed this minimal workspace for Matt. After years of him working hunched over the breakfast table, we finally decided that we should just share the office, have each side with our own style and needs, and this is what I came up with for him. Luckily, just as we were starting to plan the workspace, Humanscale got in touch to ask if we would like to try some of their products out and naturally we were delighted to – not only do the products fit the minimal look we were going for, but being an (award winning) ergonomic focussed company, their products have plenty of health benefits for while you’re working away too which I’m going to be discussing today.

The products are featured are those that were suggested to us by Humanscale, the best products for the space but also the best products to suit the type of work Matt does based on what devices he uses etc. Humanscale’s products help to promote a healthier, ergonomically positive working environment as well as being completely aesthetically pleasing. Now whilst I’m certainly no ergonomics expert, I have learnt quite a lot about the benefits of these pieces so I’ll do my absolute best to explain them to you. Most of Humanscale’s products are available in different sizes/finishes/colours – the product range is huge!

Liberty Task Chair

A chair is probably something that generally people do recognise is an important aspect of a workspace – health wise. Am I right? Everybody knows that posture is important.  The Liberty Task Chair does not disappoint. Whilst a lot of office chairs out there only allow you to adjust the height positioning of the chair, the Liberty Task Chair arms can be adjusted too, or even removed if you prefer. The chair also features a revolutionary counter balance mechanism which automatically provides the perfect recline resistance for whoever sits in it. The mesh fabric of the chair gives body-hugging comfort whilst providing ultimate breathability. I have tested this chair out myself (and have very shortly after been kicked out of it) but I can confirm that it is almighty comfy and life changing for those of us that spend hours sat at a desk in front of a screen. My chair feels inferior now – Matt obviously agrees, he feels like King of the castle sat his new workspace.

Keyboard System

The keyboard system is a great addition, you can change the height easily, you can change the angle by tilting it to what is most comfortable for you. It’s extremely thin so that it does not interfere with your knee space and with the Technogel palm support, it makes typing and clicking away a lot more comfortable – no sore wrists in sight. And of course let’s not forget the fact that it helps keep your desk clutter free for other stuff.

Infinity LED Task Light

Well this light is very swanky if I do say so myself. You can (very easily) adjust it to pretty much any position depending on your ergonomic preference. It’s very minimal, all cables are hidden out of sight to keep it’s aesthetic look and with just the swipe of a finger on the top of the lamp head, you can dim the light or brighten it. Do I sound jealous yet..?

MConnect M8 Monitor Arm & Dock

Matt works from a laptop normally but for his new workspace he has chosen to start using a monitor so that he can benefit from a bigger screen when working. The M8 Monitor Arm and the MConnect 1 Mount allowed him to have one seriously aesthetically pleasing monitor. The height can be adjusted depending on your eye-line, there are various interchangeable mounting options (wall/clamp etc) and they also allow you to be able to tidy (also known as hide) all the monitor cables away. They have thought of everything.

Float Table

Float is a very impressive piece in itself. It has a lever which allows you to effortlessly adjust the height of the table depending on your ergonomic preference, it also allows you to work standing up should you prefer to – the key to remaining healthy while at work is apparently to alternate between standing and sitting positions! But it really is effortless, it’s no task at all and you don’t even need to be strong to do it – it seriously couldn’t be easier! And it’s not noisy to do so either. Of course there are safety measures to prevent the possibility of injury associated with any incorrect counterbalance so don’t worry about that. It’s as secure as can be. It’s a sleek, minimal piece – you wouldn’t know at first glance all the mechanics that must be inside it to allow such effortless adjustment.

Cable Management

Humanscale offer cable management solutions, every tidy person’s dream. This one is the NeatTech cable management and once again, I’m jealous. It’s basically like a wide net that you fold up allowing you to tidy your cables away. It’s easy to open and close for whenever you need to but most importantly there’s plenty of room for all the cables you should need!

Rocking Foot Rocker

Last but not least, the foot rocker. This functional piece promotes health and comfort by getting your feet moving – especially when you need a bit of relief from being sat at your desk for prolonged periods. It’s also great for fidgets (I’m not mentioning any names…)

‘The FM500 Foot Rockers provides perfect support for the feet and legs when sitting. By engaging lower leg muscles, it increases healthful circulation while also raising the feet to relieve pressure on the lower back.’

So that’s everything! Doesn’t it look gorgeous! I think the white colour choice really makes the Humanscale products pop from the wall colour! So far there’s no doubt that Matt’s new workspace has helped him to be more productive and it’s certainly aesthetically very pleasing too! Thanks Humanscale!
