DIY – WIRE MEMO BOARD

DIY WIRE MEMO BOARD

I’ve been desperate to get my hands on a wire memo board since I came across Jasmine Dowling’s dreamy desk on Instagram years ago but I was struggling to find one online for a price that I was willing to pay. Of course there are great versions out there, a beautiful brass one on Urban Outfitters for £40 and one which I keep seeing pop up online which is available in different colours is Block Design’s wire memo board at £55 – and those prices aren’t including shipping! Even £40 seems a lot of money to me, for something that is effectively just a piece of metal – so I decided to take matters into my own hand and try and come up with a cheaper alternative.

I found some cheap silver grid mesh on Amazon which cost about £20 including postage! So that’s already saved you half the cost, and even better it arrived within two days which I was really impressed with. If silver works with your decor or theme then you could leave it as it is – if Jasmine Dowling can rock a silver wire memo board then so can you! I knew I wanted a black wire memo board though so this is where the DIY came in for me – this would be quick and easy if you were to get some spray paint, but I had some matte black wall paint left over from my dining room wall so I decided to see how that would go on. Two coats later and it turned out just fine. Please be warned if you decide to paint it, it does take a lot longer – I was just being lazy and couldn’t be bothered to leave the house to go and buy some spray paint. But I guarantee it will be a much less painful experience if you spray paint it – and you will get a more even finish too! You can pick up spray paint for between £5 and £10 on Amazon, from your local B&Q, Homebase – a lot of places really – the price will depend on what colour and finish you want. Even if you have to buy yourself some paint, you’ve still got yourself a cheaper wire memo board than buying from a high street store and a bit of self satisfaction for your DIY skills. You might even have some left over spray paint lying around like me – in which case, use up your left overs and safe some pennies!

I hope you find this useful, let me know if you decide to make yourself a cheaper alternative wire memo board!

P.S. I know it’s not September just yet but I really hated the colour of the August calendar page so I’ve just wished a few weeks away as you do… all in the name of decor.
